If I employ someone and pay them the minimum wage, what are the costs for the employer?
Answer:
The gross minimum wage for an employee of 23 or over is currently €1264.80 per month. The costs for the employer are, on average, €1575.94 (depending on the industry sector). This can be reduced to €1379.94 per month.
Question:
If an employee becomes ill, does he still accrue holiday? And what if he comes back to work part-time?
Answer:
Yes, holiday entitlement continues to accrue for six months. If an employee returns to work part-time, holiday is accrued on the hours that are worked, after the six-month period.
Question:
If no probationary period is mentioned in the employment contract, does the statutory probationary period apply?
Answer:
No, the probationary period must be specified in the employment contract (one or two months, depending on the duration of the contract), otherwise no probationary period applies at all.
Question:
An employee with a temporary contract becomes ill three months before the expiry of the contract. Can the employment contract be broken?
Answer:
Yes, the employment contract ends on the date specified in the contract. The employee must be registered with UWV; otherwise, the employer has to continue paying the wage.
Question:
An employee has to work abroad for a long time in connection with a lucrative assignment. Is he still subject to Dutch legislation?
Answer:
In principle, an employee may work abroad for one year. The employer must withhold the premium for the employee insurance from the wage. Before the employee leaves, a posting declaration must be applied for from the UWV and/or SVB.
